@ BJ – I think HBO might be the only station that could do justice to Iron Druid. Sort of like they did with TruBlood/Sookie Stackhouse books.

And thank goodness the next Iron Druid book comes out in April. I just downloaded #3, but I’ve heard it ends on a major cliffhanger so I’m glad I don’t have to wait long.

Your observation about taking the mundane and making it insane is EXACTLY right. I think readers can always tell when a writer has completely bought into their own worldbuilding, when they really OWN it – it makes it much easier for us to believe it.

@ Cathy – I think Hearne is so talented! I think in the hands of a lesser writer, a lot of the absurdity would get boring and cause lots of rolling of eyes. Hearne has this knack for walking a fine line, and result is his brilliant humor. I just downloaded Hammered! Can’t wait to start reading it . . . although I am a bit worried, since you mentioned it ends on a cliffhanger!

Awesome review! You’re so right about what Kevin Hearne does so well in taking these well-known mythologies and religions and interpreting them in his own way. Atticus has the most unique perspective on humanity and history, so it makes sense that these topics get this kind of treatment. Hearne stretches them to their limits, even getting ridiculous with them, but it works because it’s a humorous book. Everything sacred gets included, but everything gets made fun of, so everything remains equal.

It might be sort of Monty Python-esque as a result.

This is so brilliant, Camille!! I think this is totally the way to go as an author who wants to review books. And, you shouldn’t have to feel like you can’t review books, but this is a really good way to safely give your opinion on them. It’s a win-win.

I can’t wait to see what you think about IDC from a writer’s perspective!
